J’aimerais attirer votre attention sur l’appel à communications « Mercenariat et service au sein de la Légion étrangère. Une histoire croisée franco-allemande (XIXe-XXIe siècle) »
Soutenu par le CIERA, ce colloque junior, organisé les 29 et 30 septembre 2026 à l’IHA, entend explorer de manière interdisciplinaire l’histoire croisée du mercenariat et du service au sein des légions étrangères. Il vise notamment à analyser les multiples dimensions des relations franco-allemandes que ces phénomènes mettent en lumière, tout en les inscrivant dans leur contexte européen et mondial depuis le long XIXe siècle. Les doctorant·e·s et les postdoctorant·e·s dont les travaux portent sur l’histoire franco-allemande du service dans la Légion étrangère, sur une histoire culturelle ou sociale de la ou des légions étrangères, ou encore sur l’influence de la Légion étrangère dans les arts, auront l’occasion de présenter et de discuter leurs projets de recherche. September 2026 am DHIP stattfinden wird, hat zum Ziel, die deutsch-französische sowie die europäisch-globale Verflechtungsgeschichte von Söldnertum und Fremdenlegion seit dem langen 19. Jahrhundert sichtbar zu machen und interdisziplinär zu thematisieren. Doktorierende und Postdocs, die sich in ihren Arbeiten mit der deutsch-französischen Geschichte des Fremdenlegionsdienstes auseinandersetzen, eine Kultur- oder Sozialgeschichte der Fremdenlegion(en) schreiben oder den Einfluss der Fremdenlegion auf die Kunst analysieren, sollen dabei die Gelegenheit erhalten, ihre Forschungsprojekte mit anderen Forschenden zu diskutieren. A History of Franco-German Entanglement (19th–21st Centuries)«. This CIERA Junior Colloquium, which will take place on 29–30 September 2026 at the German Historical Institute Paris (GHIP), aims to highlight and examine, from an interdisciplinary perspective, the history of mercenary service and the Foreign Legion – with a particular focus on Franco-German connections, but also on European and global interrelationships – beginning in the late 19th century. Doctoral students and postdocs whose work focuses on the Franco-German history of service in the Foreign Legion, who are writing a cultural or social history of the Foreign Legion(s), or who are analyzing the Foreign Legion’s influence on art, will have the opportunity to discuss their research projects with other researchers and experienced experts in an interdisciplinary setting. Finally, the junior colloquium also aims to provide an opportunity to debate the role of mercenaries in 21st-century conflicts and the associated political discourses Applications must be submitted before July 8, 2026.
